Helping you get the right medicine, at the right cost

Getting your medicine how and when it fits your life really matters. So you get the support you need to make the best choices for your health, budget and safety.

Choose Therapeutic Equivalents: Same benefits, lower price.

What are they?

A therapeutic equivalent is a prescription drug with the same medical benefit and quality for the management of your condition as the medication you currently take, but at a much lower price.

How do I get them?

First, ask your pharmacist if there’s a lower cost therapeutic equivalent to your current medication, or check the Spotlight medications in the table below. Then, call your doctor to see if a switch is right for you. If so, the doctor can send a prescription for the new medicine to your local pharmacy.

How your pharmacist can help with your health.

Beyond just filling your prescriptions, your pharmacist has other ways to help with health or medication issues. Here’s just a few you can ask about: be sure to bring a list of your medicines and any relevant health info with you so they can give you the best advice.

Reviewing your medication schedule.

Pharmacists can evaluate your medication regimen and create a written plan to maximize efficacy, screen for drug interactions, see if some meds can be consolidated, and help you simplify and clarify the management of your condition.

Supporting disease and condition management.

Some pharmacists have additional degrees and certifications in chronic condition management and therapies and can personalize an approach for you that complements your meds, involving screening, monitoring and even correct equipment usage.

Recommending over-the-counter medications.

A common medical issue you have could be resolved with over-the-counter (OTC) medications and non-drug therapies ― without compromising your existing intake. Just ask.

Advising on any side effects.

Your pharmacist can figure out if what you’re experiencing is related to your diagnosis, your medication, or something else ― such as supplements or a vaccine. Then they can offer OTC recommendations for the management of any symptoms.

Recognizing when you need a doctor.

Sometimes OTC remedies might not be enough to relieve or manage what’s bothering you. Pharmacists are trained to recognize when you might need to see a physician for proper care.

Finding the best price possible for your meds.

If you’re not sure of your insurance coverage, or worry you can’t afford a certain medication, they can clarify what your plan covers, suggest prescription alternatives, and even find discount cards and coupons.

Giving shots and vaccines.

From flu, hepatitis A and B, to HPV, polio, pneumonia, shingles, tetanus and chicken pox (as well as COVID-19), pharmacists are able to provide immunizations and vaccinations. And if you’re not sure which you might need, just ask.
