Meet the Texas Health Aetna Leadership Team

Jeff Cook

Chief Executive Officer

Jeff Cook serves as CEO of the Texas Health Aetna joint venture. He reports directly to the Texas Health Aetna joint venture board of directors and is integral to the overall success of the new health plan company.

Most recently, Cook served as national vice president of insurance and value-based strategy and reimbursement for Ascension Health. While at Ascension, Cook managed the insurance and value-based strategy for seven health plans, 20 Accountable Care Organizations, 145 hospitals and 6,000 employed physicians across the U.S.

Concurrently, Cook served as president and chief executive officer for Seton Insurance Services, Seton Health Alliance and Seton Health Plan. In that role, he was responsible for Seton’s managed care, accountable care organization, health plan, community insurance, charge master pricing and hospital case management.

Prior to these positions, Cook served as vice president of managed care and pricing strategies for Seton Healthcare Family, and as chief executive officer of United Healthcare in Central Texas.

Cook earned his M.S.H.A. from the University of Texas at San Marcos and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University.

DeWayne Wilson

Chief Financial Officer

DeWayne Wilson joined Texas Health Aetna as the chief financial officer in April 2017. In this role, Wilson will oversee the overall financial performance and lead efforts to build and manage the network of health care providers.

Wilson joins Texas Health Aetna with more than 24 years of health care management experience primarily in finance and provider contracting roles. Previously, he served as the senior finance director for Managed Care and Value-Based Reimbursement for Ascension Health, as well as director of finance for the Insurance Services division for Ascension’s Seton Healthcare Family ministry based in Austin, Texas.

At Ascension Health, Wilson maintained a financial leadership role while the national hospital system implemented various population health and value-based reimbursement initiatives to support its adoption of the Quadruple Aim of better health outcomes, lower cost, and improved patient and clinician experience.

Wilson also worked as a vice president of sales for MedSym Solutions Inc., partner & chief operations officer of MediSun Consulting, Inc., and served as director of provider contracting for Humana’s Austin operations.

He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

Genevieve D. Caruncho-Simpson

Chief Operating Officer

Genevieve D. Caruncho-Simpson joined Texas Health Aetna as chief operating officer in April 2017. In this role, Caruncho-Simpson provides overall management and oversight of strategic and operational plans, member services and clinical programs, strategic partnerships and initiatives, as well as outsourced services.

Caruncho-Simpson joins Texas Health Aetna with more than 15 years’ experience working with health care providers and payer/insurance organizations where she held a variety of domestic and global strategic, operational and consulting roles.

Previously, Caruncho-Simpson was the national strategy leader for Value-Based Care for Ascension Health. Additionally, she held leadership roles at Humana, PwC, New York Presbyterian Hospital and University of Washington Medicine.

She is currently Adjunct Faculty at St. Louis University’s Department of Health Management and Policy.

Caruncho-Simpson received her Master's in Health Policy and Management from New York University, as well as  Bachelor degrees with Honors in Health Information Management and Clinical Social Work from University of Washington. She was also a Bill and Melinda Gates Leadership Scholar and received multiple awards for her work with clients, employers and communities.

Dr. Delanor D. Doyle

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Delanor D. Doyle is the chief medical officer for Texas Health Aetna, where he is responsible for providing strategic direction on health care initiatives and managing partnerships with the local health care systems. Previously, Dr. Doyle was the senior medical director in the Accountable Care Solutions department of Aetna. In this role, he worked directly with clinical and administrative leadership from various provider networks and health systems to execute strategies for effective Population Health Management. He was also chief medical information officer at Naviscent Health System, where he was responsible for all aspects of patient care delivery that involved the application of computer technology.

Dr. Doyle is board certified in emergency medicine and completed a combined emergency medicine/internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Health Sciences Center. He has also served as chairman of emergency medicine for Mercer University School of Medicine from 2008 to 2011.

A native of Buffalo, New York, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in biology from The State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Doyle earned his medical degree from the Morehouse School of Medicine and an executive MBA from Mercer University.

Douglas A. Sanders

Chief Sales Officer

Doug Sanders is a results-oriented Benefits and Health Care Executive with vast experience developing, growing and managing productive client relationships, while driving business results. He is a highly driven transformation expert with a proven track record in leading strategic initiatives, developing business plans and delivering client services.

Doug Sanders joined Texas Health Aetna as the chief sales officer in August 2017. In this role, he leads the sales team in implementing strategic partnerships with employer groups and brokers, as well as maintaining a healthy pipeline that stays on track to the organization’s membership goals. Most recently, Sanders was vice president of Children’s Health System, where he built services for employers to directly contract with health services providers.

Sanders has also held roles at Humana Inc., Lockton, Inc., Watson Wyatt and Aetna. He holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration – finance/insurance from the University of Arkansas. Sanders has extensive board and volunteer experience, including serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Southwest Benefits Association, the programs committee of the Dallas-Fort Worth Business Group on Health, a sponsor/team leader and a member of the Revenue Advisory Board of the March of Dimes, president of the Board of Directors of Earning By Learning, and a member of the Dallas Regional Chamber.
